Brewers, Burials, Performers and Preachers – Discover the Barbican and its environs

Diane Burnstein

Please note: The walk will take place in the morning, and this is now full, but if there are sufficient bookings, Diane will run it again in the afternoon. Please contact Sandra Hitching (see below) or book your place on the afternoon walk at the March lecture.

Information about the walk: At first glance the Barbican might seem like a concrete jungle but there are some real hidden gems in this area. Two historic burial grounds, the centre of World Methodism, the site of an Elizabethan theatre, a thriving weekday lunchtime market which is a foodie paradise, an 18th century brewery, model social housing and one of London’s leading drama schools feature on this tour. Of course, we won’t forget the famous Barbican Arts Centre, home to the best in music, art and international theatre.
